Providing Feedback on Student Writing
One way to provide feedback to students about their writing is to use the Flash Feedback method by Matthew Johnson.
It focuses on one or two learning objectives
Don’t focus on grammar or spelling if the learning objective is not about grammar or spelling
Give feedback on the thinking
Have students correct and reflect on their work
Compare their writing over time
Contrast their writing to a mentor texts

Something relational- I believe you can do this, I have high expectations for you
Something positive- something the student said in the writing or
in class, bravery in sharing their thinkingUse technology to speed the process
