Literacy th@t Works is a professional learning program for 6-12 teachers from diverse content areas that focuses on teaching students how to engage effectively with multiple perspectives and sources. Literacy th@t Works is designed to be a multi-year program, progressing from literacy foundations and routines to teacher leadership in literacy. The program has consistently shown significant gains in student writing and provides teachers with instructional strategies for the classroom.
Participating teachers earn micro-credentials from the National Writing Project and can earn 3 hours of graduate credit in English or education. Participating teachers receive a stipend up to $1450 and contribute to decisions about school purchases of classroom literacy resources. The SMLC team will arrange lodging and group meals as well as reimburse for additional meals, mileage, and substitute costs.
